Romance never goes out of style. As people’s tastes change, and fad’s come and go, at the end of the day we remember the feelings we had during the milestone events in our lives, as well as the little things we do for one another so that they know just how important they are to us.

From the moment we first met with Jessica’s mom who filled us in on the whole back-story of her daughter and Nils, we knew that they are hopeless romantics. This was confirmed by their beautiful engagement session in Central Park recreating Nil’s proposal to Jessica. And as their story went, it was no surprise that they chose to have their marriage witnessed at Lord Thompson Manor by their closest friends and family.

There truly wasn’t a detail or special reminder that wasn’t exactly in line with their vision. The flowers popped from every table and mantle in the manor, with the wedding aisle center stage for an explosion of rose petals for Jessica and her father to walk down. Giant pink and white balloons with beautiful ribbons for their flower girls and ring bearer (all of whom ran gleefully around Jessica and Nils, and then released them in unison to giggles and shrieks of delight) preceded photos under twinkling chandeliers and hanging candles in the evening light. Everywhere we turned there was another beautiful and thoughtful touch to photograph, and another smiling face to capture as their guests enjoyed an amazing day.

It was all terribly romantic, just like Jessica and Nils, and we finished the day with warm hugs from the happily married Mr & Mrs, wishing it didn’t have to end.

Jessica and Nils, thank you for such an incredible day, and for choosing us to document it all. We truly feel honored, and wish the two of you the very best in what is sure to be a wonderful life together!

When they were both undergrads together at Duke University, Melissa had thought she knew Russell. He was a frat guy, she thought, not serious. Then, two months before she graduated, Russell offered to walk her home from the bar where they had both happened to be. On that walk home, they talked. They talked about a number of things but when Russell told Melissa about his favorite violin concerto, he spoke about it so eloquently that Melissa felt as though she was finally seeing Russell for the very first time. In that moment, she saw the man he truly was; everything he could be. Most importantly, she knew that this was a man she wanted to get to know better.

When they became a couple, Melissa came to know that Russell was, in fact, very serious – especially when in came to a future with her. On their wedding day, their Rabbi shared the gorgeous words that Russell wrote to Melissa, explaining how he felt about her and the life he pictured that they would share. Russell wrote that his deepest dreams are of growing old with Melissa. That when he looks into the mirror decades into the future and sees a wrinkled face, he will see those lines as a result of good work, of a life well lived, like the hands of a skilled carpenter.  As the Rabbi read the words, Melissa and Russell held hands and stared into each other’s eyes. It’s safe to say that everyone else in the room, reached for their own tissues at that moment.

There’s no doubt that Melissa and Russell will live that life. That they will, years into the future, still look into each other’s eyes the way they did on their wedding day. Because, from the moment they first got to know each other, they have felt comfortable sharing their dreams and being themselves. And that is the very best recipe for a happy life together.

The classic, ideal Western wedding is sort of a palindrome: you start the day slowly building to the heights of finery, hoping to look better than you ever have in your life, culminating in the stunning formality of a wedding ceremony … and then you let it all go in wild revelry, a mash of joy and sweat and hairpins. It’s how we squeeze every last bit of happiness and camaraderie out of a single day, and Jackie and Corey’s wedding was an incredible expression of the form. Beauty? Well, you have a couple whose ecstasy (and every other emotion) radiates through their whole body, classic style, beautiful, well-thought-out details and all set in the stunning Lord Thompson Manor.

You know the Manor is incredible given that it was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted … who not only designed spaces like Central and Prospect parks, but the area where I proposed to Tatiana. So it was wonderful to be able to share this day shooting alongside Tatiana and working with friends like Styles on B at this amazing wedding. I knew it would be a good crowd, when, within the first 20 minutes, I texted Tatiana “The guys are hilarious; they’re doing improv with all of the decorations in the room” and she said “Jackie is doing the same thing!”

Thank you, Jackie and Corey, for having us tell this story.

5.28.2011 – Ashley and Scott

These two are adorable and we had just seen them the month before for their engagement session in NYC so shooting with them was still fresh and we all had a blast!  As a wordie, can I call myself that, like a foodie but with words, one of my favorite parts of their marriage is that Ashely only had to change one letter in her name to have his last name!  So fun!

They are also super easy to photograph, totally in love, adorable together…that makes our job easy! We brought Samantha Bohall with us (since I was getting pretty round at this point!) and had a blast working with her, as usual!

You might remember Katie and Ben from the wintery engagement session we posted–we were beyond excited for their July wedding because it was happening with one of our favorite families at one of our favorite places!  I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, CT.  It is the perfect country estate for a whole weekend event where friends and family can stay and be together for more than just the wedding reception.  The gorgeous Cottage House, right up the street from the Manor is perfect for getting ready.  The white everywhere theme is a dream to shoot. It makes the perfect backdrop for the girls to have hair & makeup, eat some lunch, and enjoy eachothers compay!

Because of the ideal setup, Katie and Ben chose to do a first look on the LTM grounds.  These are so great here because the family gets to watch from the balcony overlooking the ceremony space, while the couple gets some privacy out on the lawn to enjoy that moment without having to go right into vows.  I think I could gush on and on about Katie and Ben and their families and friends and how in love they are…and about Lord Thompson and how easy they make the flow of the day…but you’re here for the pictures, right?  So here they are!  Oh wait, one more thing…Katie and Ben were excited for the fire pit at the end of the night…sadly it was raining…but we turned sadly into one pretty awesome picture with the rain and an umbrella and a just a few seconds outside–awesome lesson in going with the flow and finding the beauty in the way things happen!

This is one of my absolute favorite places to photograph–if you want glamor and elegance and an all in one place affair with an all hands on deck staff who make the event perfect than a Lord Thompson Manor Wedding is the place for you.  The getting ready space is all white on white on white…which, I’ll be honest, is a photographer’s dream, and sometimes I find myself daydreaming of decorating my own house with all white floors, furniture, walls, linens, decorations, etc…anything you put in the space after that looks amazing!  The first look location is amazing because the couple has privacy down at the ceremony location and the family and bridal party can look on up on the balcony…later this balcony serves as the perfect place for the toasts and a group picture…they’re so efficient you aren’t wasting anytime on this shot and have a whole group! The other amazing aspect of Lord Thompson Manor is the amount of decor they have to choose from…the tablescapes are always amazing and really dress up every event!  2016-03-04_00012016-03-04_00022016-03-04_00032016-03-04_00042016-03-04_00052016-03-04_00062016-03-04_0007
