When Stefanie & Chris asked me to photograph their wedding, it felt like eons away. Both of them were studying to be doctors and they decided on a long engagement, focusing on their careers and putting in long hours at the hospital. So, I’ve been looking forward to capturing their wedding day for quite some time now and was over the moon about their gorgeous venue, the Lord Thompson Manor in Connecticut. I was so inspired by Stef’s vision of deep hues, fruit on the table, and really cool objects like feathers and old books that I found styled to perfection around the property. This was truly a romantic wedding day – the venue even played a perfect love song during their first look in the mossy woods which took me completely off guard so much so that I was tearing up at the special moment. (Stef and Chris were too of course!) Hope you guys enjoy this one, it was such a treat! xx Jessa

Bridget and Mike had the most flawless summer wedding at Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, CT.

The bridal prep was bright and white with touches of sparkles. The groom and groomsmen dressed in classic black and white tuxes. I absolutely love the combination of a stunning mansion but with a short walk beyond the ceremony space you’re walking in the woods (and a walk you could do in heels!) We got most of the portraits out of the way before the ceremony so everyone could enjoy the cocktail reception with Bridget and Mike. Like any good wedding the night ended with a dance party.

If you’re planning a timeless wedding, this effortless elegance is what you’d want and staying on schedule is exactly what you’d hope for. They had the perfect day!

sidenote: I’ll be back here for another awesome summer wedding in a few months!

Here is the second part of Lauren and Jason’s beautiful wedding day. (click here to see the first part.) Their wedding was held at Lord Thompson Manor and was just lovely! Every detail was perfection, but what really stood out to me was Jason and Lauren’s personalities. They are one of the most fun and truly happy couples. Lauren and Jason, you’re the best! Thank you for welcoming us like old friends and allowing us to capture your love. And your friends. And your family. And everything in between! Your wedding was amazing and we’re honored to be a small part of the day you married your best friend.

Any advice for future bride/grooms?
Be true to yourself and trust your gut.
One of the best compliments I received was that my wedding was “the nicest informal, formal wedding” they had been to. Jason and I wanted a classic wedding, but we also have really kooky personalities. I’m glad our wedding was beautiful and formal, but that people still had fun and could see our crazy personalities shining through.

What was your favorite detail?

I feel like there were so many!
Although not a small detail, I loved my dress and am so happy I picked it. I always told people that “the dress is my personality, not my daily style.” I felt great in it.
Besides that, I really loved our programs. I love photography and wanted to include pictures of Jason and myself in an interesting way, so we created programs with a unique picture on the cover. Each guest’s program had a different shot of Jason, myself, or us together. It took a long time to assemble the programs, which we did the WEEK BEFORE the wedding, but I am SO glad we did it.
Funniest memory from your wedding day?

For me, the funniest memory is of the cake cutting. Jason and I cut the cake with the provided knife, and got the cake to the plate with the matching server. Then we realized that’s all we had; there was no forks or other standard utensils. There was a funny moment while we looked around with no idea of what to do now. Then I picked up the server and used that to feed Jason the cake, and he did the same for me.

Lauren and Jason are one of those couples who you can instantly make your heart happy! Their day was full of personal touches that reflected their fun personalities. They are the type of Bride and Groom that make us remember why we love our jobs so much! Thanks to all the amazing vendors who made the day so beautiful. It was such a pleasure to see this head-over-heels-in-love couple tie the knot!

Kristine Vichiola (28 and a teacher) and PJ Cochrane (24 and works in account management) tied the knot in an elegant wedding in Connecticut. The couple originally met through the bride’s younger brother and other mutual friends. For the proposal, PJ surprised Kristine with a getaway weekend to Rhode Island where he popped the question on a cliff overlooking the ocean. “It was a dream come true!” says the bride. As soon as they visited Lord Thompson Manor and heard the venue’s concept of a “wedding weekend,” which includes a rehearsal dinner, reception and brunch, among other events, the couple knew it was where they wanted to hold their celebration. “It really encompassed everything we wanted out of our wedding,” Kristine says. “A venue that would make it about us, with exceptional eye for detail.” A color palette of light gray, light pink and ivory were incorporated into all of the décor and helped the bride and groom achieve their desire for a light, soft look that gave a romantic feel. Following the outdoor ceremony, guests attended a cocktail hour with various stations of cheeses, meats, seafood and pasta. A dinner of steak, chicken, seafood, mashed potatoes and vegetables followed at the reception. The next morning, close family and friends attended brunch at the Manor with the newly married couple. “Our wedding was anything by typical, but it was just perfect for celebrating our love,” Kristine says.

The Event Space

Nestled on forty acres of breathtaking grounds in a quiet corner of Connecticut, the Lord Thompson Manor features stunning manor building, manicured lawns, and majestic old trees. The effortless romance of the setting makes it the ideal spot to tie the knot, whether you’re opting for an inside or outside ceremony. One of the major highlights of the venue for many wedding couples is the preparation and dressing rooms, which offer the perfect sanctuary in the hours leading up to the main ceremony. The bride has a luxury bedroom and dressing room area, while the groom and his groomsmen can hang out in the stylish den, complete with pool table.

The Ceremony

With both a beautiful indoor and outdoor ceremony space available to choose from, the Lord Thompson Manor caters for weddings at any time of the year, no matter what the weather. If you do plan an outdoor ceremony and your worst fears come true, you can easily move indoors with guests in tow, while still taking advantage of the awe inspiring natural setting thanks to the floor to ceiling windows that surround the altar. If you are lucky enough to be getting wed at a time of year when the sun is shining, the outdoor ceremony space is truly magical enveloped by birth trees and trailing ivies, and tucked away in a private and tranquil part of the grounds. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

The Decor

Jen and Pat knew that they didn’t need to go overboard on the decorations when they already had such a beautiful backdrop to work with. With that in mind they kept their influence elegant and effortless, making use of the lavish interiors, manicured grounds and sensational setting.

Forget about needing to hire a florist to help style your big day as Jackie, one of the invaluable members of the Lord Thompson Manor team, will take care of everything you need, adorning the manor with endless beautiful and creative arrangements. Jackie takes the utmost care to make every detail perfect, and will even spend the time blowing out the blooms to help them look extra impressive! Jen and Pat opted for a choice of white roses, pale pink tulips and baby’s breath, accompanied with vibrant green foliage, which suited their romantic vibe wonderfully.

Don’t be surprised if comments like “the food was incredible” and “this is the best food I’ve ever had at a wedding” become the mantra of the day, as your guests are seriously going to be bowled over how delicious the food is. Whatever you have your heart set on, be it a traditional sit down meal or a seasonal buffet, nothing is too much to ask for. After tucking into all the delights on offer, the wedding party can make their toasts from the picturesque balcony overlooking the gardens.

The Details

The details are often an overlooked aspect of a wedding, but without them your decor can easily end up feeling a little lackluster. Jen and Pat ‘s wedding features plenty of charming particulars cleverly placed throughout the event space including lanterns lining the staircases, hanging chandeliers from tree branches, and floral garlands weaved around the altar. One of our favorite details from this couple’s super sweet celebrations was their thoughtful collection of photographs which were framed and placed atop the grand piano in one of the main reception rooms.

The Photography

When it comes to the photography we knew that there was no better person to ask than Nicole herself. Happy to share her personal insight into what makes the Lord Thompson Manor such a picture perfect setting here’s what she had to say:

“Lord Thompson Manor is filled with personality. It’s charming interiors lend for some incredible photographs.  The bedroom on the top floor, where many brides prepare before their ceremonies, has large windows and is decorated with dark rich tones.  If you skillfully climb out of this window, there’s a platform where it’s possible to view the yard and take a photograph of the all of the wedding guests (as Jen and Pat wanted).  The exterior of the manor has a plethora of fantastic textures – from different fauna in the garden, to stone, to an open field that lends to an incredibly colorful sky during sunset.”
