The Weekend Wedding

One Private Weekend. One Romantic Estate. One Couple.

At Lord Thompson Manor, a wedding is not an event. It is a three-day experience at a private historic estate — a long exhale from ordinary life, shared with the people you love most.  We host one wedding per weekend. The entire 42-acre estate — the 1918 Manor, The Cottage House, KISS Spa, the ceremony grounds, the romantic reception rooms — is yours from Friday arrival through Sunday farewell. No other couples. No strangers at the next table. Just your people and a staff that exists, for three days, entirely for you.

Your Weekend, Hour by Hour

FRIDAY: THE ARRIVAL  Your romantic weekend begins Friday evening. Guests and wedding party check in to their rooms across the historic Manor and Cottage House. As the house fills, the private estate settles into the particular quiet that precedes something important.  The rehearsal dinner takes place on the estate — on the stone patio with the fire pit lit in warmer months, in the Manor’s conservatory when the season calls for warmth. The menu is yours to shape: a Tuscan harvest table, a New England seafood spread, a formal plated dinner, a relaxed Southern BBQ. Our James Beard-celebrated team builds it around you.  After dinner, those still arriving join a late-night welcome gathering. The private weekend has officially begun.

SATURDAY: THE WEDDING DAY  Saturday morning begins at The Cottage House, where KISS Spa opens exclusively for your bridal party. Romantic morning light fills the white-walled rooms. Hair and makeup proceed at a civilized pace. Breakfast arrives. Photographers move freely.  Across the private historic grounds, the ceremony space is being dressed. The reception rooms are being transformed.  The ceremony takes place on the historic Frederick Law Olmsted-designed grounds — or indoors in the Great Hall when the season calls for it. The romantic outdoor setting, surrounded by mature trees on a private estate that has stood since 1918, creates photographs unlike anything a purpose-built venue can produce.  The reception follows, then dancing, then an after-party that continues until 2 a.m. No one is asked to leave.

SUNDAY: THE FAREWELL  Sunday morning arrives slowly on the private estate. The farewell brunch gathers everyone one final time — a table full of people who have just shared something extraordinary. It is, by nearly every account, the moment couples most wish they had photographed.

Why Three Days at a Private Historic Estate Changes Everything

Most weddings ask guests to travel hours to attend a five-hour celebration. The weekend wedding at a private historic estate inverts this. Guests arrive Friday and settle in. By Saturday afternoon, they are not strangers attending an event; they are friends sharing a home.  The romantic intimacy of three days together — rehearsal dinner, spa morning, ceremony, reception, farewell brunch — creates a depth of shared experience that a single afternoon simply cannot. This is what makes Lord Thompson Manor guests say, years later, that it was the best wedding they ever attended.  Not because it was elaborate. Because it was private. Because it was historic. Because it was romantic. Because it was theirs.
